Speaking of food, where could you find our creations in the kitchen? Glad you asked! New this season is our cutting board/covered cake pan combo. To clarify the pan; it's a 9x13 pan with an engravable lid (#assortedcolors). Depending on where you live, it could be called #cakepan #casserole #cheesypotatoes #hotdish
The inspiration for this unique set came about during canning season. Slicing and dicing lots of produce while the critters wait at our feet for something to hit the round, which is fine and quite comical at times. Until it comes to peppers. We just didn't want any discomfort to befall our #furbabies from hot pepper seeds or flesh, so this combo came about as a way to keep track of all pepper parts ~ is that a thing ~ pepper parts? You may choose to put scraps in the pan through the opening to carry out to the #compostpile or, put the 'keepers' in the pan to use use cover for the fridge. (hint: small items can set on top of the pan lid in the fridge for more space). When food piles up beneath the opening, you just pick up pan and board and gently shake contents away and continue processing. Hope you find this as handy as we do! As shown, there are different color lids ~ contact us for availability. Also, boards are ally very different colors/species of wood, so no choice there. We are your #handcrafted connection! #coatedstainlessdrinkware #kitchentools #cuttingboards

Here at The Cedar Mitten we craft custom cedar furniture (and other things, but that's another blog!). The design basis is familiar ~ the lower peninsula of the great state of Michigan. There are similar pieces available, but allow me to point out some methods to note and/or compare.
We begin with 1"-1 1/2" rough sawn lumber. This gets run through the planer to a new dimension of 13/16" - yes, a touch heavier than 3/4" !! We have seen other chairs made with fence cedar ~ barely 1/2". We are frequently accused of over-building our creations. Whether a shanty, gun rack or furniture, we build to last and survive much use. The Cedar Mitten actually puts 4-on-the-floor; four vertical legs support the sloping side rails to transfer load to the ground. Also, we install 3 braces to support the back of the chairs; 2 of which are actually screwed to the side supports Our furniture pieces are a classic addition to your seating needs. Thank you for visiting! Wow, where did January go? Here in Michigan we are bracing for a winter storm. Which means things can be slow at the #brickandmortar . We like to keep things interactive and engaging online. Floyd has been working hard to learn the ins and outs of making the cnc router become a valuable tool for our business. It is already saving us time and making a more polished product. Go to our signs page and you can see examples of amazing #carvedsigns . With the addition of our #cncrouter this summer, we have greatly expanded our capabilities for #customsigns and #customhomedecor. Whether your family name, scripture or business logo, we can create a sign crafted to your idea. So, bring us your ideas and pictures and let's get started designing. #businessexpo #customsign #businesspromotion
Today I want to talk about another aspect of Kaleidoscope Laser that isn't always social media friendly. It's our B2B jobs - small runs of parts and pieces for other companies. And by small, I mean under 3,000 units. Technically called job shop, those are facilities that do small jobs so that a large company doesn't need to retool or bring in equipment for a short-term task.
It can be marketing items like key fobs or leatherette labels. Or it can be laser engraving hundreds of pieces that are a part of a larger unit like tap handles or custom trophy bases. We can cut and engrave plastic tags to identify equipment parts or organize bins. Then using the same badge plastic material, we make signs to identify tractors, vehicles, hallways, rooms and direction. Right now, we are processing another batch of acrylic parts for a company that was just awarded a patent! So cool to be a part of that - conception to production. Yes, R & D is something we can help with too. Conception to production. Floyd is now cutting some samples of the next generation of that product. So, while you may not always see the less glamorous, high volume jobs, they are very much a part of our capabilities whether laser or CNC router. All this to say, multiple income streams are vital to our small company. We make stuff, so keep us in mind when you hear a request for small parts production. Let's talk weddings! Since the powers-that-be of all things wedding have chosen to hold the big bridal shows in January, we need to get the word out about the custom wedding accessories we can make.
Starting at the #bridalshower , we can cut unique #caketoppers to match your nuptial theme. Invitations can be sent out with a small leatherette heart enclosure with a #savethedate message. Bridal party gifts run the gamut from #laserengraved glass barware, stainless barware, knives and leatherette manicure sets. Of course, the big day comes with some sort of favor for guests to take home. Depending on your theme, #barnwedding screams mason jars, custom cork coasters can be an affordable option by the hundreds. And don't forget, we can personalize many items for actual wedding gifts for the new couple 2019 has dawned crisp and cold. K, enough of the poetic rambling. We seem to be good at changing things up for our business each year. Sometimes twice a year. This year will be no exception. First hurdle is the new website. We've gone around a few barrels and found we need control.....to add, subtract and get messy ourselves. Last year we moved into Lowell to have a brick and mortar presence. This has been invaluable to our exposure! Convenience for our customers not having to trek out to the country on the oft times crabby gravel roads is a good thing too. Then there's Martha. We have made a new friend and a priceless colleague in business building. We share store space with her and she is awesome with the retail 'thing' and marketing. We complement her ideas by building new store fixtures and helping with the heavy lifting. Many blessings to count. We do have a huge undertaking in the works...praying it all works out. More to come on that as we take baby steps to make it happen. Blessings to you this year!
